Yesterday I went to the mall with my father to pick up some jeans.
If any of you are curious, yes, he is gay… And yes, he takes me shopping.
Beyond that, shopping is a hugely difficult thing for me, especially living in today society where plus sizes are frowned upon and anything below a size 8 is acceptable. Now, I’ve been a size 8 and up since grade 6, I’m 5’10, I have birthing hips, and I’ve got a “J-Lo Booty”. Shopping is difficult to say the least.
I have been a pretty consistant size 12-14 for the last 3 years of high school and it varies from store to store, depending on how badly the media has affected their sizing.
The only store that’s seemed to cater towards my size was the GAP, however this store isn’t consistent and just yesterday the Jeans I bought from their need to be returned because they must have changed their sizing again. The 12 I had purchased before now could barely get over my thighs, which isn’t due to wait gain, because I haven’t gained!
So after much trouble and frustration I decided that I would check out Voluptuous Clothing which resides at the Square One Shopping Centre in Mississauga.
LET ME TELL YOU! Best decision of my life. Now I was never afraid of going to a plus sized store for fear of being “fat” or “heavy” or any other claims people have complained about. I was afraid because of the sizing. I feared that I would be too small for the plus sized stores! THANK GOD I WASN’T!
The lovely Evelyn helped me sort out my fashion troubles and I bought two pairs of Jeans and two tops, and now I know where to go on my next shopping spree!
There’s something so comforting about finding clothes that you are happy in, that you don’t feel yourself tugging on, or complaining about, or always looking in mirrors to see if you’re okay. The security that comes with knowing you are rocking what you’ve got is just so great!
To anyone struggling with finding clothes to fit your body, don’t fear the plus size sections, or stores! Don’t be afraid of your own size and what you are! If you can find clothes that fit properly and look hot! ROCK IT!
